Half Year Stainless Steel Output Reaches High
On a Global scale Stainless Steel production has actually increased to an all time high of 16.4 million tons in the first six months of the year. On Friday these all time highs were reported to the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF).
However, this vast increase of 3.8% when compared to last year is restricted to just China and the Central and Eastern Europe region which compensated for losses made in other major stainless steel production areas.
There was a decrease of 3.1% to 4.4 million tons seen with Asian Stainless Steel production when China was excluded. The Asian countries showed very different performance levels in regard to their production volumes; stainless steel production decreased within Japan and Taiwan whilst China boosted stainless steel output by 13.5% to 6.2 million tons in the first six months of the year.
Flat stainless steel production rates were seen in the Western Europe/Africa region during this period. The total production within this region though was 4.3 million tons and this was down 0.2% when compared to the first half of 2010.
Although production in Central and Eastern Europe showed increases of 22% the overall volume produced in the region was negligible.
