Stainless Steel Strip: The Epitome of Versatility

One especially versatile form of stainless steel is strip, which finds many thousands of uses in all different kinds of industries. The list of applications for which stainless steel strip can be used is practically endless but includes heating elements, springs, flexible tubing, surgical instruments, exhaust systems, cutlery, filtration devices, conveyor belts, wind turbines, fasteners, fixings and a host of other structural components.

Whatever application stainless steel strip is used to facilitate, the quality of the metal must be superlative and the strip must also be slit to highly accurate tolerances. These crucial requirements are always met by BS Stainless and (at the risk of mixing both our metals and our metaphors!) our strip coils come with a cast iron guarantee.

Creating strip coils begins with stainless steel slabs, which are processed in a Z mill to produce wide coils with a typical width of around 125cm; these are known as mill edge coils. Using state of the art equipment, the expert team here at BS Stainless slit these 'mother coils' into smaller strands which are referred to by various terms including strips, bands or slit coils. The materials and processes we use are carried out under the scope of our ISO accreditation, giving buyers full peace of mind that everything is done to the highest possible standard.

BS Stainless is one of the UK's premier suppliers of stainless steel strip coil and can offer this versatile product in a full variety of grades. Some of the most popular of these grades are:

  • 304. Displaying good corrosion resistance and weldability, stainless steel strip of this grade is especially easy to shape or roll form.
  • 316. Often referred to as 'marine grade', 316 is exceptionally resistant to all types of corrosion; the addition of molybdenum to the alloy mix means that this grade is particularly resistant to pitting corrosion.
  • 321. Grade 321 stainless steel contains titanium which makes it much stronger than 304 as well as increasing its resistance to intergranular corrosion.

In addition to extra options like lightweight coils, coloured strip and deburred edges, we also offer stainless steel strip with a variety of finishes including 2B, 2D, 2E, hot rolled and bright annealed.
