Stainless Steel Wire: Combining Art with Industry
Stainless steel is a truly remarkable material, capable of taking an near-infinite variety of forms and displaying many seemingly-contradictory qualities: though extremely strong and robust, it is also extraordinarily malleable and lightweight. As well as its well-defined role in construction, stainless steel is increasingly being used as an artistic medium, with sculptures springing up all over the world.
Stainless steel in wire form lends itself particularly well to creating sculptures that are strong and durable yet appear to be extremely delicate and lifelike. BS Stainless are proud suppliers of stainless steel wire to two especially talented artists: Candice Bees and Robin Wight.
Candice Bees
Candice got in touch with BS Stainless some time ago with a request for stainless steel wire, which she used to make a lifelike, life-size sculpture of a hare. Working deftly with the malleable material, she captured the swift grace of the animal perfectly. Encouraged by her success, Candice continued developing her talents, taking her inspiration from the natural world and continuing to produce beautiful sculptures using stainless steel wire.
So impressed were the BS Stainless team with Candice's work, we commissioned her to create a piece for us to display on our stand at the WIRE exhibition in Dusseldorf. The sculpture attracted plenty of attention and was universally admired by all who saw it.
Robin Wight
Using stainless steel wire supplied by BS Stainless, Robin creates stunning sculptures designed to add a whimsical, magical aesthetic to gardens and other outdoor spaces. His work focuses on depicting fairies and other mythical creatures though he also uses the material to create giant dandelions . He is now a globally recognised artist and his work recently featured on Countryfile Live.
As the majority of Robin's sculptures are designed to be displayed in outdoor locations, the anti-corrosive properties of stainless steel make it an ideal material to work with. Robin continues to purchase stainless steel wire in a variety of gauges, which he uses to create commissioned pieces.
