The Ichthys Project — Countdown To Phase Five Begins
When a massive, long-term project enters its final stages and the completion date looms ever closer, it is difficult to describe the feeling of excitement and anticipation that begins to build among those concerned. Everyone at BS Stainless is experiencing these feelings at the moment as the Ichthys LNG Project, to which we have been supplying a wide range of materials and components for almost two years, moves into the latter part of its fourth, penultimate phase. Millions more people are set to experience the benefits when Ichthys begins producing vital Liquefied Natural Gas - here comes the future of power.
Ichthys by Numbers
-
The massive plant is located some 220 km off the shore of Western Australia
-
Ichthys represents the single biggest discovery of hydrocarbons in Australian waters for more than 40 years, placing it firmly among the most significant oil & gas projects on the planet
-
Creating the plant’s major sectors has been described as ‘three mega-projects that form one super-project’ and involves some of the most massive and modern offshore facilities available in the industry today
-
Along with the offshore floating storage, production and offloading facilities, Ichthys also boasts a fully-equipped processing facility on land - the two are connected by an 889 km pipeline
-
Operational life is expected to be at least 40 years
-
Predicted yields are as much as 1.6m tonnes of LPG and almost 9m tonnes of LNG per year
-
Ichthys is expected to produce approximately 100,000 barrels of condensate every day at its peak, bringing crucial energy to millions of homes and businesses, driving forward both the economy and technological advancement in the field
-
A five-phase project (Acquisition, Exploration, Drilling, Development and Production), Ichthys is now in the latter stages of Phase Four
