The Manchester Half Marathon: BS Stainless Needs YOUR Support!

Every year in October, over 13 miles of Manchester roads are closed off to make way for the city's annual Half Marathon. 12 of our team members here at BS Stainless have signed up to run the course, raising much needed funds for charity in the process.

The circular route, which measures a total distance of 13.1 miles, begins and ends close to Old Trafford, the home of the world famous Manchester United Football Club. With a stated aim to 'truly represent all the wonderful people of Manchester and celebrate our achievements', the event is the biggest of its type in the region and this year is set to welcome well over 24,000 individual participants.

The Manchester Half Marathon has taken place every year since the inaugural event back in 2016. Set along a mostly flat route, the marathon has consistently received five star reviews from its participants. Along the way, runners are treated to live performances and DJ sets while being encouraged by spectators situated in dedicated 'cheer zones'.

The BS Stainless team's participation in this year's Manchester Half Marathon will be raising funds for two charities: St Catherine's Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

St Catherine's Hospice
Not only is St Catherine's Hospice close to our heart, it is also located just a stone's throw from the BS HQ. The building and grounds were donated to Preston Royal Infirmary in 1922 and used for several decades as a convalescent home for women and children. In 1985, after what is described as 'an incredible fundraising feat by the community', the building was repurposed as a hospice designed to support people who are affected by life shortening conditions such as cancer and motor neurone disease. St Catherine's Hospice also provides support to help loved ones through their bereavement.

Macmillan Cancer Support
One of the UK's best known cancer charities that relies almost entirely on voluntary donations, Macmillan Cancer Support exists to 'do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer'. The organisation was established over a century ago in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan, whose father tragically died from the condition. As well as providing financial, physical, practical and emotional support for people with cancer, Macmillan Cancer Support also runs numerous public campaigns and helps to 'influence decision-makers on all cancer-related policies at UK-wide, national and local levels'.

The Manchester Half Marathon 2024 will take place on Sunday the 13th of October and the BS team members are training hard. We would love it if you could support us and our nominated charities; please head to our Taplink page to make a donation.
