What is the BSSA?
You may notice on our web site that BS Stainless are members of the BSSA , similar letters I know but not the same company. The British Stainless Steel Association or BSSA in its abbreviated form aims to promote and develop the manufacture and use of stainless steel across the UK.
Furthermore the BSSA provides marketing materials, technical advice, information, training and education in all aspects of stainless steel from material selection to fabrication and cleaning.
The BSSA is itself a member of both The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) and The European Stainless Steel Development Association (Euro Inox). It also works closely with other partner organisations such as the Metals Forum, benefiting from their specialist knowledge and support, whilst representing the interests of the stainless steel industry to a wider forum.
Most countries have the own member group to represent the interests of companies and users within that country. The BSSA is based in Sheffield the spiritual home of stainless steel due to its long association with the early developments o stainless steel there by Harry Brearley.
The BSSA offer regular training events for user of stainless steel to learn about areas such as grade selection, fabrication, welding and corrosion. On their web site you will find articles on surface finish, Duplex stainless steel and special grades of stainless steel.
One of the key strengths of the BSSA in addition to the growing number articles for reference on their website is the technical support helpline where you can speak to an export that can help you with stainless steel questions.
